Whois Privacy Protection, occasionally also referred to as Privacy or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the real contact information of domain registrants on WHOIS lookup websites. Without this service, the name, address and email account of any domain registrant will be publicly available. Giving fake details during the domain registration process or altering the authentic information at a later time will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain registrant losing his/her ownership of the domain name. The policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, demand that the WHOIS info must be valid and up to date all the time. The Whois Privacy Protection service was introduced by registrars as an answer to the growing concerns for potential identity theft. If the service is active, the registrar company’s contact details will be displayed instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are certain country-code ones that don’t.

Whois Privacy Protection in Website Hosting

If you get a website hosting package from our company, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domains if their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and add Whois Privacy Protection during the account activation procedure or you can enable the service for any of your domain names at any moment afterwards via the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is really easy – once you log in, you will have to visit the Registered Domains section where you will see a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with us. For each of them you will notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, which will tell you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently enabled.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you wish to conceal the contact information associated with your domain and you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you’ll be able to add our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the account activation process or at any moment later through our Hepsia Control Panel. This service is optional and can be added with a couple of clicks from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domains that you have registered through us will be listed alphabetically. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of the domain extensions that support this service by simply clicking on the “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol on the right-hand side of each domain. In the very same way, you can also renew the service or turn it off – if you wish to transfer a domain to a different registrar and you need the real email address associated with the domain to be visible.
