Every registered domain name has no less than two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain to the servers of a specific hosting provider. That way, you've got both your site and your emails managed by the very same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, for example A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the website for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, whenever you type a domain address in your web browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you will be forwarded to the servers of a different company if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the website and the emails means you may have your site and your e-mails with two different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

With a website hosting package from us, you'll be able to create or modify the A and MX records of your domains and subdomains easily by using our sophisticated Hepsia hosting Control Panel. Editing the default records will take two clicks and the creation of a new record takes just a few more clicks, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters, you will not experience any issues. We also have a large help section that will make things even easier. If you wish to change your email provider and you have to set up several MX records in addition to the standard two, you may choose their priority i.e. which record will manage your emails first when someone sends you a message. Normally the new provider is going to tell you what these values need to be. With our shared plans, you're going to have full control of your domain names and subdomains and you are going to be able to handle their A and MX records effortlessly and at any time.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our Linux semi-dedicated plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to update any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is quite easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you complete control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
